Neya Kalu
Neya Kalu is an astute Business Executive, Lawyer, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist. She is currently the Chairman of The Sun Nigeria, a reputable Nigerian News Organisation, Chairman of Sun Heaven Hotels and Resorts, and the Founder/CEO of Base Coat a chain of Nail Salons in Nigeria.
With a first degree in Law and an MSc. in Financial Services Management from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, Neya has in the last 12 years, garnered experience across various industries crafting and implementing business initiatives and functions. Before her appointment as chairman of The Sun Publishing, Neya worked as an HR professional in the shipping and banking sector where she led dynamic teams to bridge the gap between employees’ performance and the organization’s strategic objectives.
Apart from being a Business Executive and Entrepreneur, Neya is passionate about solving social issues especially as it relates to women. She believes in the development and empowerment of women as they are major players in national and world development. Supporting women is crucial to Neya and you will often hear her use the phrase ‘Sister’s Keeper’. This burning passion drives her work with the OUK Foundation and the Neya Kalu Foundation, contributing to the implementation and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 1-6. Neya is a voracious reader and lover of African literature especially written by Nigerian authors
Early Life and Education
Neya’s early life was fairly quiet and somewhat isolated which gave her plenty of time to daydream. She also had her father as a role model to look up to at her young age. Her father is a visionary leader and businessman who worked hard and encouraged her to pursue her interests and passions.
Neya Kalu went on to obtain a first degree in Law and an MSc. in Financial Services Management from the prestigious University of Buckingham, United Kingdom.
Career and Leadership
Neya Kalu started her career at the age of 18 and experienced a lot of gender and age biases. But, that didn’t stop her from demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and business acumen throughout her career.
As Chairman of The Sun Nigeria, and the Sun Heaven and Hotels, she directs strategic decisions that drive the organisation’s success.
As the Founder/CEO of Base Coat, a chain of Nail Salons in Nigeria, she has set the pace for the beauty and luxury nails industry in the country, by providing unique experiences for trendy women
